My Spring resolutions (and confessions)

Having read a lot of it's-finally-Spring-let's-change-something-up-in-our-beauty-regimes blogs (and, my goodness, that are a lot of them and it's only the first week in Spring!), I reluctantly questioned myself if I should jump on the bandwagon and write a blog on oh-it's-Spring-let's-use-this-as-an-excuse-to-spend-some-money-on-things-I-don't-need. Maybe not the best idea.

So I've got this "light-bulb" realisation that, instead of buying more stuff, I should "shop" from my existing beauty stash. Looking at my storage of hundreds of beauty items (no kidding, I really mean hundreds, which further reinforces my decision not to buy anything more just because oh-it's-finally-Spring), I picked a few things, and my resolution is to start using these few things before Summer. That's right, start using, not finishing. If I make my goal realistic, there is a better chance that I am going to stick to it. (The same applies to my gym routine: if the goal was 5 days a week, I would end up doing 1 or less; if the goal was 2 days a week, I actually managed to stick to it... for a while).

To further convince myself that they are good resolutions, I have reverse-engineered the reasons for my resolutions. Enjoy :)

1. "Simplify your regime"

Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm | This is a makeup remover and cleanser in one. I shall apply the balm on dry skin and let the balm "melt" my makeup and I shall remove the balm with the cotton cloth supplied with the balm, so (supposedly) there is no need to double cleanse. I shall use one cleanser instead of two for double cleansing, that's one less item in my skincare regime. It sounds like a good idea.

Real reason for getting this product in the first place: I picked this up during a Priceline 40% off sale because of the hype of cleansing balms. I have serious FOMO for a good sale and I just had to buy something. I am actually perfectly happy with my cleansing oil followed by double cleansing with a gel cleanser.

2. "Change your regime for the warmer months"

Goodness Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil | As the weather gets warmer, what my skin needs would change and I shall start using products with a thinner consistency. As natural sebum secretion increases with temperature, Chia seed oil is perfect for warmer months - it has a thin consistency, easily absorbed, and with a rather high ratio of linoleic acid + linolenic acid to oleic acid means a lower tendency to clog pores.

Real reason for getting this product in the first place: It came in the Priceline Goody Bag. Again, it was another case of serious FOMO for GWP. This is one of the more appealing products in the bag. If you ever pick up a Goodness product make sure you read the leaflet inside the box - it's hilarious.

3. "Use SPF everyday"

L'occitane Immortelle Precious Cream SPF 20 | The days are longer in warmer months, so as our exposure to the sun. Sunscreen is the best anti-aging ingredient that exists. I shall use this cream religiously everyday.

Real reason for getting this product in the first place: I "bought" this from an online beauty community Beautyheaven's beautorium using my hard-earned points (on average, I spend 15 minutes on one product review and each review will earn me points that are equivalent to 25 cents. The effective hourly rate works out to be $1.00 per hour). I exchanged my points for a couple of "luxe" products because, let's be honest, I would never fork out $85 on a cream that I not tried, nor have any idea about what it does. But I do wear SPF daily, usually in-built in a tinted moisturiser.

4. "Illuminate your complexion"

Estee Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer | I like a healthy glow regardless of season. I have always tried to achieve this by improving my skin condition. On days that this isn't possible, I shall use some cosmetic help.

Real reason for getting this product in the first place: I scored this from a competition on the Estee Lauder Facebook page, and this was a while back (late 2014/early 2015). It was probably the first time I have ever won any beauty items in a game of skill. I was more excited about the "winning" than the product itself. It has been sitting in my stash of "to be used" items, but I really should use this before it expires.
